Introducing the newest Jeep Grand Cherokee

available at Percy's Auto Sales

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is an offroading SUV in the midsize category. Its a bit bigger than some of the other Jeep offroaders so that you can carry more people and cargo, and it is also more practical as a daily commuter for a family. The Grand Cherokee has great performance both on the road and off it. It's a great option with its 2020 design if you are interested in a bigger offroad specialist. Read on to learn more about how the new Grand Cherokee works on the inside and out.

What's New for This Model Year?

The 2020 edition of the Grand Cherokee is very similar to the 2019 model. The primary differences are in the offerings. The 2019 model year had 12 different models between all the trims and styles. For 2020 Jeep has reduced that down to seven, which is much easier to understand. Additionally, there is no longer a diesel engine available, which wasn't a popular model and made the engine choices easier to parse. It's about iterating on an already great design and making it accessible to you, the buyer.

Performance

The Grand Cherokee has four engines, all of which feel quite powerful. The base engine is rated for 295 horsepower. The first upgrade choice is a V8 rated for 360 horsepower. It provides a nice boost to the power as well as the towing capacity. The SRT trim has a 475-horsepower V8 that kicks things up. Lastly, the biggest engine is on the Trackhawk trim. Its got a monstrous supercharged V8 rated for 707 horsepower. That's more than double the base engine. This is the top-level trim, so that it will cost more than the other engines, but it's in a different world from the other engines.

Interior & Exterior Design

Like the engines, the design of the Grand Cherokee depends on the trim level. For example, the base Laredo trim uses cloth upholstery for the seats. On the top Trackhawk trim, you get genuine Nappa leather. Other interior features include seating upgrades for heating and cooling and the sound system. Exterior design elements for upper trims include a sunroof, improved wheels and headlights, and the rugged body. There aren't any external design packages, so all the trims look the same on the outside.

Tech & Safety

One of the nice things about the new Grand Cherokee is that even though it is an offroader, Jeep has committed to loading it up with plenty of cool tech and safety. That includes a nice infotainment system with a big touchscreen and plenty of USB ports for charging your devices. Safety tech includes a rear camera, rear traffic sensors, and plenty of trim-specific options like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and parking assist. This is a sophisticated suite of features, and you don't need to go very far up the list of trims to get access to them. That's a great advantage for the Grand Cherokee because, on many other vehicles, you have to get the top trim level to access those features.
